July Minutes 2015- Church Council

Old Business:

  • Pastor Report given by Pastor King. Average weekly attendance has been 239. There are 8-11 people in the new Lutheranism 101 class. 3 Funerals and 4 Baptisms in July. 1 Wedding. Current Membership is 1193. 878 of which are confirmed. At the Convention Pastor King became a member of the Nominations Committee and the Circuit Visitor for the Farmington Circuit.

  • Guest Presentation by Timothy Carron. He would like to do an Eagle Scout Project with St Paul support. It is a Cremations Garden. It will be a 12’X 12’ fenced area at the cemetery on Ste Genevieve Ave by the bus lot. It will be covered in river rock; there will be a plaque and a cross. He has been working with Jon Cozean on the plan. Estimated cost is $518.

  • Principal Report given by Kim Allen. First priority of the new school year is security. Mike Kurtz has advised on window security, cameras and an electronic alarm. Currently investigating costs.
    Athletics and Student Handbooks have been updated. Staff changes, Mr. Leach resigned and Mrs. Dickinson took a leave of absence for one year. Second grade will be taught by Mrs. Beiser and Mrs. Bennett with Mrs. Kocher aiding in the afternoon and Mrs. Samples teaching reading. Jessica Kaufflin will be the first and second grade tech teacher and cover the office for a few hours. There is still $25,000 of unpaid tuition from 2014-2015 school year. Some families have dropped because of the expense. K-8 247 students and 57 in Pre-K.
    Triple C has given dry erase boards 2 memeo boards an Apple TV for the science lab and 2 projectors. From Scholastic we were able to get a full size smart board. Priority number 2 is the math curriculum. Upcoming dates Aug 13 Orientation 5-8th grades, Aug 16 Water Park Back to School Party with tailgate. Aug 17 Orientation K-4 Aug 19 First Day of School, Preschool Open Houses for children and parents the following week. Met with Thrivent about action grants for special projects.

  • Board of Elders Report given by Scott Lix. Elders broke into interest groups of ministry.
    Christian and Parish Education – Gary Cooper and Ken Kelly
    Hospitality and Relationship Building – Ken Kelly
    Visitation – Ceth Jordan and Gary Cooper
    Inactive – Mike Kurtz and Steve Thomas
    Bereavement – Mike Kurtz and Steve Thomas.
    Board is reviewing membership and looking for feedback on every Sunday communion. Scott Lix motioned to continue the 9 am Sunday service (in place of 8 and 10:30) through the end of the year.

  • Christian Studies Report was given by Heather Kurtz. VBS went really well. VBC “Have you ever been convicted of a felony” needs to be added to the form. Still looking for a Sunday School Director.

  • Board of Christian Outreach Report given by Janet Laut. Board collecting coats and jackets for donation to needy. Cleaning out the brick house.

  • Board of Christian Life report was given by Joann Henderson.

New Business:

  • Nancy Krekeler is getting a cookbook together to benefit the Foundation.
    Consecrated Stewards was discussed as the stewardship campaign to present to congregation

Motions:

  • motioned to allow Timothy to make a presentation and collect a free will offering after all services one weekend- passed
