January Minutes 2016- Church Council

Old Business:

  • Pastor Foss offered an opening devotion. The joy of the Lord is our strength.

  • Pastor Report given by Pastor Foss. Working on essentials and identifying the shut-ins. Would like to start a transition team that will figure out who we are and where we are going. Lent services will deal with conflict resolution. Need to organize a task force to get a handle on cash flow issues.

  • Principals /Treasures/Finance Report given by Greg Shinn. Prospective principal is coming to visit and meet with parties on Feb 6 for the weekend. Financial meeting with parents were conducted, honest information was shared. Parents had an opportunity to consider solutions: i.e. donate to the Foundation, increase tuition or reduce classes and teachers. One board member and parent told of impact of increase tuition on his family. Scott Lix donated a cow to use in some fundraising manor

  • Board of Elders Report given by Scott Lix. Locking mechanism on bank bags has been fixed. Working on membership rules in the constitution and bylaws. Working on Shepherding Groups. Stephen Ministry is up. Have been discussing the financial situation and the salary of the new principal and the Alter Guild. Ken Kelly has resigned from the board of elders due to his upcoming move to Rolla.

  • Christian Studies Report was given by Heather Kurtz. Discussed increased participation in Bible Study and Youth Group. Investigating the timing of VBS. Need elder help enforcing background checks. May want to do a high school youth retreat to get youth interested.

  • Christian Outreach Report given by Janet Laut. We need more members.

  • Christian Life Report given by Joann Henderson. 9 excited members met at the Bowling alley. The Lenten meals will be provided by various organizations of the church and offering will go to the Building Fund. Feb 14 will be a Valentine’s Day Brunch to honor couples with more than 50 years of marriage. (20 couples)

  • Board of Trustees Report given by Jason Garner. There is a sump pump failure during last rain. If it snows, come by with a shovel. Suggestions for changes to bylaws and operational handbooks submitted.

New Business:

  • Stephen Ministry Valentine Bake Sale to fund the next group going to the training.
    Ken Kelly resigned as Vice Chairman of the Congregation

  • Scott Lix recommended that St Paul work immediately to establish a policy on who will be allowed to use the facilities based on our beliefs.
