February Minutes 2016- Church Council

Old Business:

  • Pastor Foss offered an opening devotion. What would Jesus be pleased with and what would He like to correct here at St Paul?

  • Minutes were approved

  • Pastor Report given by Pastor Foss. Working on visiting people, encouraging teachers and organizing the Elders. Confirmation will be April 24, 2016. Working together with School Board and Elders to unify the church and school. Drafting a Reduction in Force policy with Mr. G.

  • Principals Report/ Board of Education given by Duane Giesselmann.
    Prospective principal, Mr. Bangert declined our call.
    And so the search continues.
    Currently 193 enrolled for 2016-2017 which is similar to last year’s count at this time.
    Purchased 60 chrome books.
    Girls B team was undefeated for the season.
    Alumni Catherine Mell just got her 1000 point in high school ball.
    Several alumni will be graduating from MAC as well as Farmington HS.
    Greg Shinn gave update on the Foundation. Starting a Phone Campaign, encouraging gifts of $365 per year.
    Will use social media and one on one meetings with major donors.
    E-tapestry is a program that will facilitate on line giving. S
    logan is to Stand in the Gap for Christian Education.

  • Finance Report given by Greg Stover. YTD cash flow is positive. Building Fund needs work. Pastor suggested a task force to get building fund going.

  • Board of Elders Report given by Scott Lix. No membership changes. Reassigning elders to interest areas with Ken Kelly’s departure. Lori Dennison made a presentation on member tuition. Talking about worship opportunities. March 16 elders will do the Midweek Lenten dinner. Need more elders. Will help with VBS. Steve Thomas to get with school board and set up an elder/school board meet

  • Christian Studies Report was given by Heather Kurtz. Discussed possible dates for VBS. Windemere info went out for Junior Youth Retreat

  • Christian Outreach Report given by Greg Shinn. This group serves as the base committee for Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest is a fundraising event for the Foundation. Working a date with Mr. G and Pastor Foss. Will work on contacting visitors with Christian Life.

  • Christian Life Report given by Joann Henderson. Planning some events. Gary Cooper brought the Milestone Ministries to Life Board. Cards for births, graduations, weddings, baptisms and deaths. Huge endeavor – looking for ideas. Valentine Day Brunch was wonderful. Midweek Lenten meals have been well attended.

  • Scott Lix will address the legal plan for use of facilities.

New Business:

  • Pray about vacancies in leadership.

  • Heather Kurtz asked on behalf of Auction Committee if they could have and auction off a church pew in the office basement and a few antique folding chairs. Council recommended they check with trustees for permission and Carolyn Schifferdecker for age.
