November Minutes 2015- Church Council

Meeting Date/Time: 11/24/2015

Attending:

Heather Kurtz, Sally Shinn, Joann Henderson, Scott Lix, Jason Garner, Greg Shin, Ken Kelly, Jerry Hoeflein and Eileen Jones were joined by Elders:Daniel Best, Steve Thomas, Mike Eaves, Tim Crites, Dan Fitzgerald, and Mike Kurtz.

Absent:

Mark Jones, Lori Dennison and Pastor Richard Foss.

Visitors/Guests:

Old Business:

  • Treasurers Report given by Greg Shinn. Announced a $50,000 matching grant. Already collected $26,000 and $4,000 in pledges. Combined total of efforts so far could be $130,000 of the $225,000 budgeted for the Educational Foundation.

  • Mark Jones, St Paul Lutheran High School Secretary, asked about the congregational fees due to the High School. Greg Shinn assured him that a payment plan will be developed that incorporates gym rental fees. Jones also announced his retirement from the High School Board in January of 2016.

New Business:

  • Lori Dennison presented a BINGO fundraiser to benefit the Building Fund. There was much discussion. Ken Kelly will investigate with Peace Lutheran in Rapid City SD to see how this works for them. Scott Lix motioned that pending outcome of Synod investigation and approval of the elders the council endorse a one time BINGO in January of 2016 with a purpose to evaluate an ongoing fundraising BINGO. Sally Shinn seconded and the motion passed.

  • Elders Report given by Scott Lix. Pator Bill Schroeder has verbally agreed to 20 hours a week from December 1 through January 15, 2016 as our Vacancy Pastor.

  • Pastor Richard Foss was interviewed for our Intentional Interim Pastor. He is from St Louis and has been serving in this role since 2000. He facilitates a 5 step process to help us bridge to a new pastor as a healthier congregation. Who is this church apart from the pastor? Identity? Where are we going in the future? What leadership is necessary? Implementation.

  • Voters meeting scheduled for December 6 after the 9 am service.

Motions:

  • motioned that Ralph Ogden be Marks replacement on the High School Board. passed.

  • motioned to accept the minutes of both September and October Council meetings as submitted. passed

  • motioned to recommend to the voters that we ask Pastor Rick Foss as our Intentional Interim Pastor. passed
