March Minutes 2016- Church Council

Old Business:

  • Chairman Jerry Hoeflein opened with a prayer

  • Minutes submitted and approved

  • Principals Report given by Duane Giesselmann.
    268 students registered for next year.
    Of those not returning 1/3 are going to public school, 1/3 forgot and 1/3 are unsure of their plans for next year. May 19 is eighth grade graduation and the 20th is the last day of school.
    Achievement tests will be taken the week of April 11

  • Treasurers Report given by Greg Shinn. Positive cash flow with income from the foundation. In response to our request for extension on payment or a line of credit, Ozark Federal wants to see stability in leadership, a fund drive established, establishment of a 6 month cash reserve and the movement of the building fund account to Ozark Federal. After much discussion about the Building Fund Drive, Jerry will start looking for a professional to assist with fund campaign and will contact the leadership of the last fund drive to see if they are willing to volunteer again.

  • Board of Elders Report given by Tim Crites. Elders have been coordinating visits to shut-ins. Discussing school enrollment and worship music. Elders will visit other board meetings. Pastor Foss has a plan for our membership active/inactive issues

  • Christian Studies Report was given by Heather Kurtz.
    We will not be ordering extra Sunday School materials for the summer as we have extra materials now.
    28 students and 8 adults are going to the Junior High Youth Retreat at Windermere.
    4 youth from St Paul and 3 friends will be traveling to The National Youth Gathering.
    They are doing all the fund raising. The pancake breakfast donations benefit National Youth Gathering group and the egg hunt and basket proceeds benefit junior youth.

  • Christian Outreach Report given by Janet Laut
    Donuts and coffee before 9am church in the upper level.
    Working on a visitor plan.
    Oktoberfest will include vendors, food and entertainment.
    To have Oktoberfest on Sept 17

  • Christian Life Report given by Joann Henderson.
    Midweek Lenten meals were well attended – Thank you.
    Bake sale this Saturday.
    Confirmation is April 24 but there will be no brunch.
    Modified version of the Country Store at Oktoberfest, Sept 17.
    Video commercial to advertise what the boards do.
    Will help with the Building Fund Pledge Drive.

  • Board of Finance Report given by Greg Stover.
    Board requests each board to gather income and expense info.
    Board will distribute info from 2015-2016 budget to work from.

  • Board of Trustees Report given by Jason Garner.
    Some old stuff, changing light bulbs and swatting wasps.

  • Board of Christian Education Report given by Sally Shinn.
    Thankful for service of Mr G, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Allen during this transition year.

New Business:

  • Stewardship – Would like to see auto giving increased.
    Vision Plan – Time and Talent survey to new people
    - Small Groups are hoped to be established for fall kick off.
    - Bible Study Groups needing additional opportunities
    -Doug Pratt on Sunday Evenings
    -Pastor Foss weekly bible reading w devotions

  • Membership – Elders are working on a plan
    New Leadership – Jason Garner serves as Vice-Chair
    Kraig Sutherland will step in as Vice-Chair at Jerry’s leaving
    Doug Pratt will follow

  • RIF – Elders and the Board of Education are working on a Reduction in Force policy

  • Meeting Time – Tim Crites motions to move the meeting time of the Church Council to 6pm.

  • Original Charter Document – Was found during recent cleaning and will be framed and presented to church at the Easter Service. It will be hung in church.

  • Nominating Committee will work toward having a slate of board members for approval at the May Voters Meeting and July 1 assumption of duties.

  • Auction – Donation deadline is April 1, needing baked goods especially.
    Next Meeting April 26, 2016 at 6pm in the commons.
